Vietnam Travel Information during Covid-19

Vietnam Travel Information during Covid-19

Test

Since the start of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Vietnam has closely monitored the situation and installed a series of proactive, comprehensive measures to combat the spread of the virus within the country and prepare its public health facilities. Experience with other epidemics places Vietnam in a strong position to protect its population as well as visitors passing through.

Overview of the disease prevention policies applied in Vietnam are as follows:

Chống dịch covid

1. Vietnam lifted its 22-day social distancing directive on April 23. However, the government advises all citizens and foreigners to wash hands regularly, and maintain an interpersonal distance of at least one metre. Gatherings of more than 20 people are banned, and masks must be worn when out in public.

2. Festivals, religious ceremonies, and sporting events are still suspended across the country. Facilities such as bars, beauty salons, and massage parlours remain closed until further notice. Most trades and services including hotels are allowed to resume.

3. Flights, public transportation, inter-provincial transportation, monuments, tourism attractions, and government offices have reopened with safety measures in place.

4. Entry restrictions remain with only Vietnamese nationals, foreigners on diplomatic or official business, and highly skilled workers allowed to enter the country at this time. All persons entering Vietnam must undergo medical checks and 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

5. Travellers remaining in Vietnam may call the 'Vietnam Tourism Helpline' for assistance. Please dial (+84) 378 173371 for guidance on visas, accommodation, taxis, food delivery, nearby hospitals, or the embassy or consulate details.

6. Several of festivals and events in Vietnam have been cancelled or postponed in alignment with the government’s directive to avoid public gatherings:

- Huế Festival 2020 - Postponed to August 28, 2020

- F1 Vietnam Grand Prix - Postponed

- Da Lat Sufferfest

- Postponed

- Quang Binh Marathon - Postponed

- Techcombank Ha Noi Marathon - Postponed

- Sunrise Sprint - Postponed to May 3, 2020

- Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2020 - Cancelled

- Da Lat Ultra Trail 2020 - Postponed to June 19-21, 2020

7. Health and safety precautions for travellersTravellers in Vietnam are encouraged to take sensible precautions against COVID-19 during their trips.

The World Health Organization outlines these basic practices to keep yourself and your loved ones safe:

Avoid travelling if you have a fever and cough. If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, alert health care services and share with them your recent travel history.

Maintain social distancing. Stay a meter or more away from others, especially those who are sneezing or coughing, or have a fever. Wash your hands regularly with soap and running water. You can also use an alcohol-based hand-sanitizer to spray your hands as often as you like.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of dirty tissues immediately and wash your hands after coughing or sneezing. Avoid contact with live animals. Wash your hands with soap and water if you touch live animals or animal products in markets.

Eat only well-cooked food. Make sure your meals especially animal proteins and dairy products are thoroughly cooked and prepared in a sanitary environment. Discard single-use masks. If you choose to wear a single-use mask, ensure it covers your nose and mouth, avoid touching the mask, and wash your hands after removing it.

"Any travellers experiencing symptoms of the virus — fever, cough,  and difficulty breathing — should immediately call Vietnam’s health hotline: 19003228."

8 must-visit attractions in Nha Trang, Vietnam

8 must-visit attractions in Nha Trang, Vietnam

Empty sandy beaches that stretch for miles, cool waterfalls, ranges of untouched mountains, an interesting history, and a unique culture, Nha Trang has it all.

Fast becoming one of the top destinations in Vietnam for all these reasons and more, here are 8 attractions you must not miss if Nha Trang is in your itinerary.

1. Dam Market

cho dam nha trang

Dam market is the most popular market in Nha Trang and is a huge imposing four story concrete structure. Inside you will find everything Vietnamese, from clothes and accessories to electronics and household items, spread around various colorful stalls. Head in here in the morning and have some breakfast in the food court to start your day.

2. Thap Po Nagar

thap ba

These are some of the best-preserved pieces of Cham architecture in Vietnam, similar to the My Son Temples in Da Nang. Built between the 7th to the 12th centuries, this temple is dedicated to the goddess of the country, Yan Po Nagar, and is still used for worship by the remaining descendants of the Cham culture that once flourished throughout the country.

3. Long Son Pagoda

chua long sơn

Situated at the foot of Tray Thui mountain, this pagoda was built in 1886 in typical Taoist style. Long Son Pagoda is where you can find the large white Buddha statue sitting atop the mountain crest that you can see from most places in Nha Trang town.

4. Nha Trang Cathedral

nha tho da

Nha Trang Cathedral is another still functioning religious monument that also serves as a tourist attraction. Despite being constructed using simple blocks of cement, the cathedral looks surprisingly elegant. Mass is held multiple times a day, and it is a great way to witness differences in religious routines compared to those back home.

5. Hon Ba Mountain

hon ba

Hon Ba Mountain may take a while to climb but up on the summit is a beautiful little house built by Alexander Yersin, a French doctor, who used it as a little getaway. With a cool climate all year round, Hon Ba Nature Reserve is dubbed “The Da Lat of Nha Trang,” and all your sweat will evaporate thanks to the cool winds found up here.

6. Bai Dai Beach

bai dai beach

A fine alternative to Tran Phu Beach, Bai Dai beach 18 miles (30 kilometers) away from the center of Nha Trang is more peaceful with a more local feel. The waves here make it a fantastic location for surfing, and if you hit up The Shack, you can rent reliable surfing equipment. If surfing is not your thing, just get a beer and chill on a hammock by the beach.

7. Tran Phu Beach

bien tran phu

Tran Phu Street running down the coast of Nha Trang is the most popular street in the city, with high end resorts like Intercontinental and The Sheraton on one side, and a lively beach on the other. There are plenty of beach-side cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs for you to choose from that have their own little bit of beach with reclining chairs and parasols, so find one to suit your tastes and spend an evening lazing about.

8. Ba Ho Waterfall

ba ho

About 17 miles (27 kilometers) north of Nha Trang, reached via a beautiful coastal drive, is Ba Ho Waterfall which literally translated means “three pools.” The waterfall is perfect for a morning dip and barely ever gets crowded. Wear good hiking shoes and follow the arrows painted on the rocks and trees.

Top man-made structures in Da Nang

Top man-made structures in Da Nang

From the hands of God to a fire-breathing dragon, artistic architecture abounds in Danang. Located in Central Vietnam, this coastal city doesn’t only have beautiful beaches on offer, but also stunning structural marvels that make it extra worthy of a visit.

Golden Bridge Hands

Golden Bridge Hands

Ever wondered what it would feel like to stroll through the hands of God? Well, now you can, thanks to this incredible 150-metre-long walking bridge nestled in Danang’s Ba Na Hills, 1,400 metres above sea level. The gigantic hands, which appear to be emerging from the forested hillside, proudly hold a golden walkway that offers awe-inspiring views of the mountain landscape. It’s no surprise that the bridge has become a social media sensation, attracting visitors in their droves. Located 90 minutes from Danang’s city centre, the Golden Bridge Hands offer a truly sublime experience that makes it well worth the trip.

Dragon Bridge

Dragon Bridge

Stretching across the Han River, the Dragon Bridge is undoubtedly one of Danang’s finest examples of architecture – and a great Instagram opportunity. As you might guess from its name, the bridge is shaped like a dragon flying across the water – although the resemblance to the mythical creature doesn’t end there. The dragon delights crowds by spitting water and breathing fire on weekends after 9pm. Don’t let that fool you into thinking the bridge is a mere gimmick, however. Dragons are a symbol of prosperity and power in Vietnamese culture, and thus the structure represents Danang’s growth into a thriving economic hub. Whether you view the dragon basking in the sunlight or illuminated at night, no visit to Danang is complete without a glimpse of this feat of engineering.

Han River Bridge

Han River Bridge

The Han River Bridge is notable for being Vietnam’s first swing bridge, as well as for its important role in the stimulation of Danang’s economy. Designed by Vietnamese architects and built largely by the local population, the structure is an emblem of achievement within the city. It looks especially lovely when lit up in dazzling colours after dark, swinging open at 11pm on weekends where it captivates locals and tourists alike.

Lady Buddha

Lady Buddha

Buddha statues are a common sight throughout Vietnam but the tallest and most impressive is found at the entrance of Linh Ung pagoda atop Son Tra mountain. Measuring a whopping 67 metres in height, the Lady Buddha casts a protective gaze over Danang, with her striking white figure visible from almost any point in the city. Inside the statue are 17 floors, each one dedicated to a different Buddha. There’s also the chance to visit the statue’s head – provided you can cope with all the stairs.

Thuan Phuoc Bridge

5

At 1,850 metres long, Thuan Phuoc Bridge is Vietnam’s longest suspension bridge. It was opened for traffic in 2009 and has remained an integral part of Danang’s infrastructure ever since. The bridge has become a popular tourist attraction due to its clean, modern design and its appealing LED illumination system that makes it one of Danang’s most picturesque spots by night.

Tran Thi Ly Bridge

5

Much like the Dragon Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge has won international awards for its innovative design. With an overall length of 731 metres, the cable-stayed bridge has simultaneously managed to reduce congestion in Danang and become an attractive landmark since its rebuilding in 2013. The bridge is designed to resemble a sailboat drifting down the Han River, reflecting the relaxed atmosphere of this seafront city.

Explore the spectacular beauty of Cham Museum

Explore the spectacular beauty of Cham Museum

The Cham Museum in Danang is the largest collection of Cham sculpture and artwork in the world. Whenever visiting the museum, you still perceive an individual atmosphere particular to this place, the reverie of reminiscences.

Situated in a quiet area of Da Nang City, Cham Museum was built in 1915 according to the motifs of ancient Cham Architecture. At first it was named the Henry Parmenties Museum. The museum is officially known as the Museum of Champa Sculpture. The kingdom of Champa (or Lin-yi in Chinese records) controlled what is now south and central Vietnam from approximately 192 through 1697. The empire began to decline in the late 15th century, became a Vietnamese vassal state in 1697, and was finally dissolved in 1832. At present, the museum houses 297 stone and terracotta sculptural works made between the 7th and the 15th centuries. These are impressive works typical of the Cham culture.

A brief history of the Champa

A brief history of the Champa

According to Chinese chronicles, the Champa kingdom was founded in 192 A.D and had different names such as Lin-Yi, Huang-Wang and Chang-Chen. Its territories stretched from south of the Ngang Pass in Quang Binh Province to the delta area of the Dong Nai River in Binh Thuan Province. It included the coastal plains, highland and mountain ranges.Influenced by the early Hindu civilization, the Champa kingdom was a federation of several smaller states called Mandala and comprised several ethnic groups. The most important legacy of the Champa kingdom is located in Central Vietnam in the form of brick temples and towers which are scattered over the coastal lowlands and highlands. The structures date from between the 7th and 8th centuries to the 16th and 17th centuries and are concentrated in Quang Nam, Danang, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.

The most extensive collection of Cham art

The Cham Museum was built in Cham architectural style, using thin lines that are simple and gentle. The museum displays an intensive and diverse collection of Champa sculpture dating from the 7th to the 15th centuries, when a matriarchal society prevailed.

The museum was established at the end of the 19th century by the Ecole Francaise d'Extreme Orient with a collection of artifacts gathered in central Vietnam, from Quang Binh to Binh Dinh. They were then displayed at Le Jardin de Tourane on a small hill by the Han River. This is the site of the present museum. The building was designed by two French architects, Delaval and Auclair, in imitation of the most commonly used aspects of Champa towers and temples. At present, the museum displays approximately 300 sandstone and terra-cotta sculptures, among which some are made from terracotta. Most of the artifacts are masterpieces of Champa art and some are considered to be equal to works anywhere in the world. The sculptures were collected from Cham temples and towers throughout Central Vietnam, more specifically the area stretching from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan. All the sculptures are displayed in ten showrooms named after the localities where the pieces have been discovered.

The most extensive collection of Cham art

After viewing the pieces in the showrooms, you can visit exterior exhibitions. The arts of the Champa were chiefly sculpture, but the sculptures are only part of the religious architecture. The temples and towers themselves are considered to be sculptural artifacts. They are decorated on the exterior of their brick walls with bas-relief columns, flowers and leaves and worshipping figures between brick pillars. The tympana, lintels and the ornamental corner pieces are of sandstones carved with the figures of gods, the holy animals of the Hindus and flowers and leaves.

The artifacts displayed at the museum are altars, statues and decorative works collected from Hindu and Buddhist temples and towers. Champa sculpture displays various styles. Sometimes they were influenced by other cultures but no matter at what period or in what style the Champa artifacts were made they always displayed original characteristics.

The most extensive collection of Cham art

Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to appreciate the eight centuries of evolution of Champa sculpture from its golden age to its decline. In their own way, the artifacts exemplify the rise and fall of the Champa civilization. When we stand before these artistic masterpieces we can comprehend the noblest ideal of art, the creation of the infinite from the finite. The eight centuries of art at the Champa museum is a thick history book reflecting the ups and downs of Champa art. From inanimate stones came living art, and from these wonderful invaluable artifacts we can get the feeling that the warmth from the Champa artists' hand is still there, on the fine skin of the stone-timeless.

The most extensive collection of Cham art

The sculptures displayed here almost have the same drifting life as the very destiny of the once-glorious culture that generated them. Through the ruins of time, war and even the oblivion, such original Champa sculptures were hardly collected and brought here by many human generations. And in this systematic collection, these works of the ancient Champa artists again have a new life.

Coming to visit the museum, it seems that you can see again the glorious time of the past of a nation for whom both the passion for art and the creative talent were already at a very high level. The mysterious world of deities, the pictorial legends, the religious symbols, the curving lines of the bodies of dancing girls, the features of full swelling breasts, the smiles of a vague time, all of these are shown very lively and in much in details.

The art of Champa, although influenced by the Hindu themes of India and Southeast Asia, has many elements that make it distinctive. Temples in Champa were made of bricks. As a result, artists did not have long expanses of wall to decorate with bas-reliefs depicting Hindu epics or phases of Buddhist life as seen, for example, at Angkor Wat. The Chams incorporated their sculptures into their temple architecture by carving them separately and making them part of the construction. These carvings are classified into four main groups: Icons; Pedestals; Pediments; Fragments of architectural decorations at the base or on various ties of the temple.

Ta Xua, Son La

Ta Xua Son La

The major attraction at Ta Xua is the magnificent view of a sea of clouds from the summit, Đinh Gio (Windy Peak). To get up there you must pass through the Dinosaur Spine path, on which both sides are surrounded by a deep abyss. The weather is most supportive from October to April.

Binh Ba, Khanh Hoa

Binh Ba Khanh Hoa

An island with break taking natural beauty located in Khanh Hoa Province is a fantastic choice for beach lovers. You can hardly resist the white-sand beaches, crystal clear water and warm sunlight tempting you to decide to stay a night in a tent by the beach to reconnect with nature. Diving, trying local seafood and enjoying the lovely beaches are the main activities here you shouldn't miss. Nom Beach is believed to have the most stunning beauty while Nha Cu Beach is an idea for discovering lives underwater, and Chuong Beach is the best spot to watch the sunrise on the island. When camping in Binh Ba in particular, remember the best time to visit is from March to September.

Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai

Mu Cang Chai

Located in the northeastern region of Vietnam, you can get to Mu Cang Chai after a considerably long ride from Hanoi – which means it’s as remote a place as there is. Mu Cang Chai is known for its stunning landscapes, full of rice terraces dotted with tiny villages of ethnic minorities living in the region. The best time to go camping here is between September and November when the rice terraces turn yellow and the buckwheat flowers are blossoming. On your way, make sure to ride over the Khau Pha pass. Camping is possible anywhere, but do give the local authorities prior notice.

Nam Cat Tien National Park

Nam Cat Tien national park is considered one of the best destinations for camping in the south of Vietnam thanks to its cool and green forests. From Ho Chi Minh City, you can easily reach here by motorbike or by taking a bus. Protected by local authorities, you can expect a clean and fresh getaway. Head over between December and May – this is the dry season in the south and you won’t have to deal with the rain. As this is a protected area, please call the authorities in advance.

Dong Cao, Bac Giang

Being a 600-meter hill situated in Ga hamlet, Thach Son ward, Son Dong district, Bac Giang province, Dong Cao is about 160km far away from the capital Hanoi. This place is enjoyed by its isolated location to the resident areas, greatest view of dawn and peaceful atmosphere. According to experienced travelers, the best time for camping at Dong Cao is from September to November when there is not much rain in the northeast Vietnam; hence, the weather is very supportive for watching dawn. Also, the wind in Dong Cao is rather strong while the slope is relatively steep, so you had better opt for a flat ground.

Hai Van Pass

Hai Van Pass

Hai Van Pass is one of the most beautiful passes in Vietnam, with serpentine roads leading away from the coast into the mountains. The pass connects the two cities: Da Nang and Hue, and played a crucial role during the Vietnam War, helping the Viet Cong transport food and weapons from one end of Vietnam to the other. At the top, near the Hai Van Gate, you can set up camp. Even if you aren’t a morning person, make sure to wake early to catch the breathtaking sunrise from up there – and then take a bath in the waterfall and lagoon to really wake up.
