Co To Island, renowned for its charming pristine islands, is ushering in a plastic-free era. Effective September 15, a stringent ban will prohibit tourists from bringing plastic bags and single-use plastic items to the islands. This initiative, mandated by the People's Committee of Co To, aims to combat plastic Waste and tackle the pressing issue of marine environmental pollution.

The scope of this commitment extends beyond tourists. Administrative units, schools, markets, business establishments, and even fishing vessels within the island district are also compelled to ditch plastic bags and disposable plastic items. Co To Island's commitment to this cause is resolute, and it's evident that every facet of the community is expected to participate.

To enforce this groundbreaking regulation, a checkpoint will be established at Co To port by the district police and border guards. Moreover, transport providers, passenger trains, tourism services, and accommodations are called upon to not only educate visitors about these regulations but also to replace plastic items with eco-friendly alternatives.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Linh, the Head of the Culture, Information, and Tourism Department of Co To district, highlighted the district's efforts in advocating against plastic usage. Since August 2022, Co To has been actively encouraging both residents and tourists to refrain from using plastic bags and disposable items, yielding promising outcomes. The marine environment around Co To island has seen marked improvements, with the return of rare species like turtles and dolphins to the island's waters. This eco-conscious shift in people's behavior is steering Co To toward a greener and more sustainable future.
