Hanoi, Vietnam - In a significant move to bolster their diplomatic ties and promote various facets of cooperation, Vietnam and Mongolia have signed a visa exemption agreement. The signing of the agreement was witnessed by President Vo Van Thuong and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh after productive discussions at the Presidential Palace.
President Vo Van Thuong expressed his satisfaction with the successful talks, stating, "We welcome the two sides signing an agreement on visa exemption for people of the two countries, contributing to expanding trade cooperation, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges."

This visa exemption agreement covers citizens of both countries, enhancing the ease of travel and fostering closer connections. It is one of six documents signed on the occasion, with the remaining agreements focusing on immigration, security cooperation, transnational drug crime prevention, and sustainable rice trade.
President Khurelsukh, while visiting Vietnam, expressed his deep appreciation of the long-standing relations between the two nations. He noted that Mongolia has supported Vietnam historically, contributing to the country's fight for independence and freedom. Mongolia has been a staunch ally, and Vietnam was the first Southeast Asian country to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia.
The leaders affirmed that the relations between Vietnam and Mongolia have thrived, particularly in the fields of politics, defense, security, and economics. They discussed plans to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including justice, the defense industry, and security through specific projects. One area of focus is combating transnational drug crimes, and the two countries also intend to promote student exchange programs in law and security.

Another significant aspect of the discussions was trade and economic cooperation. The two leaders set a goal of doubling bilateral trade turnover to $200 million in the coming years. They intend to expand bilateral import and export activities while aligning with international standards and market needs.
Vietnam and Mongolia also commended the agreement on the animal quarantine certificate form, believing it will pave the way for robust exports to each other's markets.
In the international arena, Vietnam hopes for Mongolia's continued support for ASEAN's position on security and safety in the East Sea, promoting peaceful dispute resolution based on international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Both leaders expressed their confidence in the continued strengthening and development of Vietnam-Mongolia relations, working towards an even more substantial framework of collaboration for the benefit of both nations. They aim to actively contribute to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

President Khurelsukh's visit further emphasized the longstanding friendship between Vietnam and Mongolia. The two nations established diplomatic relations on November 17, 1954, and have consistently supported each other. Bilateral trade has flourished, and efforts to increase economic exchanges have been instrumental in the growth of these ties.
In 2020, Mongolia generously donated 105 stallions to help equip the Cavalry Mobile Police Group of Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security. The presence of approximately 8 Vietnamese workers residing in Mongolia highlights the growing people-to-people connections between the two countries, particularly in the realm of employment, mainly in auto repair workshops.
