On March 30th, the first-ever "Banh mi Festival" officially opened its doors to visitors at the Youth Cultural House on No.4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).
The festival, which is being organized by the HCMC Tourism Association in collaboration with the HCMC Tourism Department will run until April 2nd, offering a host of exciting activities and delicious treats.

With the participation of more than 120 booths from leading banh mi shops, restaurants, and suppliers from all over Vietnam, the festival is a celebration of the beloved Vietnamese sandwich.
Visitors can explore and enjoy a wide variety of banh mi, including vegetarian options, as well as other baked goods and sweets.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, Chairwoman of the HCMC Tourism Association, highlighted the importance of banh mi in Vietnam's cuisine and the festival's aim to promote its value among local residents and international visitors.
The festival also features musical performances, a conference on the history and development of banh mi, and an award ceremony to honor top bakery brands that have been established for over 50 years in Vietnam.
Tran Thanh Huy, a member of the organizing board, expressed the hope that the festival would expand the appreciation for banh mi to international friends, and in turn, promote tourism in Vietnam after the long COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
The festival also provides an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to start new businesses and create more diverse types of bread. Vietnamese banh mi has been gaining popularity among international visitors as one of Vietnam's signature dishes over the years, and even recognized in the Oxford English Dictionary in 2011.
Therefore, this festival is an excellent opportunity to showcase the delicious and unique flavors of this beloved sandwich to the world.
