The American daily CNN announced that visitors to Vietnam will soon be able to experience the vintage steam locomotives of the Revolution Express, citing information from Wafaifo Optimisers. These trains, which date back more than 60 years, served as iconic representations of the Vietnamese railway sector in the 1960s.
Accordingly, this train route provides a service connecting two central tourist cities: Da Nang, renowned for its beautiful beaches and known as one of the most livable places, and Hue, the former capital of Vietnam famous for its magnificent citadel with many palaces and royal tombs. The train runs round trips daily from Da Nang, stopping at Lang Co station after passing through the magnificent Hai Van Pass, ending at Hue station, and then returning to Da Nang. This project is a collaboration between Indochina Rail Tourist Service Joint Stock Company and Quang Nam Wafaifo Hotel Joint Stock Company (Wafaifo Optimisers).
Each train will have two passenger cars with a capacity of 57 passengers, a dining car, and a luggage car. Images show that the interior of the cars is designed in a luxurious, classic style with dark brown mahogany furniture, adorned with gold-plated details, reminiscent of the bygone era when railways first appeared in Vietnam.
Furthermore, with large windows on all sides of the train cars, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the majestic mountains and sea as the train passes through Hai Van Pass or Lang Co Bay. Not only do passengers experience a nostalgic atmosphere on the train, but the staff also wear vintage attire and welcome guests with a brass band at the start of the journey.
Notably, Wafaifo Optimisers announced plans to build a royal-style restaurant at Hue station to create the most complete tourist experience. Wafaifo Optimisers stated that they are ready to operate the steam trains for tourism, which are expected to begin service at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. Specific ticket prices have not yet been disclosed, but the company mentioned that ticket sales will open in the coming months.
Mr. Michael Gebbie, representative of Indochina Rail Tourist Service Joint Stock Company, expressed his excitement about operating the trains that evoke memories of a bygone era in Vietnamese history.
