Tra Que Vegetable Village, situated in Quang Nam Province, has earned the distinction of being Vietnam’s sole representative on the United Nations World Tourism Organisation's (UNWTO) 2024 list of the 55 best tourism villages globally.
With roots tracing back to the 16th century, Tra Que lies just 3 kilometers from the UNESCO-recognized Hoi An Ancient Town and 20 kilometers from the bustling city of Da Nang. Its picturesque location, nestled between the serene Co Co River and Tra Que Lagoon, provides fertile sandy soil and a mild climate, ideal for cultivating organic vegetables.
Once a simple expanse of scattered homes and gardens, the village has transformed into an 18-hectare hub, housing 202 families and 326 farmers who grow more than 20 varieties of vegetables. Visitors are drawn to Tra Que’s charm, with thousands arriving daily to immerse themselves in its natural beauty and engage in hands-on farming experiences.
In recognition of its cultural significance, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism designated Tra Que’s vegetable farming tradition as a national intangible cultural heritage in April 2022.
The village’s inclusion on UNWTO’s prestigious list highlights its unique blend of heritage, sustainable farming practices, and community-based tourism.
