The Malaysian breakfast culture, renowned for its delectable dishes like nasi lemak, roti canai, and teh tarik, has been nominated by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture to be included in Unesco's list of intangible cultural heritage. Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan expressed confidence that this nomination would enhance Malaysia's global visibility as a food lover's paradise.

During the Dewan Rakyat's question-and-answer session, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan addressed concerns about protecting traditional Malaysian foods from being claimed as the national food of other countries. He explained that the National Heritage Act 2005 had already gazetted 213 heritage foods under the national heritage department's supervision to safeguard and preserve them from extinction.

To further promote and preserve the rich culinary heritage, the ministry has published four books, including "Makanan Warisan Hampir Pupus" and "Malaysia Culinary Heritage: The Best Authentic Traditional Recipes." Additionally, the ministry offers grants for individuals or organizations interested in showcasing national heritage food domestically and internationally through various programs.

By seeking recognition for the Malaysian breakfast culture as an intangible cultural heritage, Malaysia aims to establish itself as a diverse tourist destination with a wide array of culinary traditions. The successful nomination would undoubtedly bolster the country's global reputation and attract food enthusiasts from around the world.

Through these efforts, Malaysia takes pride in preserving its unique breakfast culture and ensuring that its traditional foods remain an integral part of its identity. The nomination not only celebrates the flavors and aromas of Malaysian cuisine but also honors the customs, traditions, and culinary skills passed down through generations. Let us savor the richness of Malaysia's breakfast heritage and promote the

appreciation and understanding of its cultural significance worldwide.
