HCMC – The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival, themed “Vietnamese Ao Dai – Rising Vietnam,” is set to take place from March 1 to 9, promising a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage. This year’s festival expands in scale, featuring more interactive activities for both residents and tourists compared to previous editions.
Grand Opening Ceremony
The festival will officially commence with an opening ceremony from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on March 7 at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and Nguyen Hue Street. It will feature an array of captivating performances, presenting impressive Ao Dai collections in three thematic segments: Ao Dai and River Songs, Ao Dai and the Fire Flower Roads, and Ao Dai – Brilliant with Vietnamese Colors.
Diverse activities for Ao Dai
1. Mass Ao Dai Dance Performance
One of the festival’s highlights is a large-scale Ao Dai dance event, scheduled from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM on March 8 at Nguyen Hue Walking Street. The event celebrates the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8, 1910 – March 8, 2025) and is expected to gather approximately 3,000 participants at the main venue, alongside over 47,000 people across 21 districts, towns, and Thu Duc City. Additionally, a traditional costume parade featuring more than 500 participants will further enrich the celebration.
2. Ao Dai Art Performance
An artistic Ao Dai performance will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on March 8 at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and Nguyen Hue Walking Street. This event not only serves as a spectacular cultural showcase but also aims to inspire a renewed appreciation for Ao Dai in everyday life.
3. Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Charm Competition
The festival also hosts the Ao Dai Charm Competition, a contest for various collectives, with the final round scheduled from 5:00 PM to 9:00 AM on March 9 at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park and Nguyen Hue Walking Street.
4. Ao Dai Painting Contest
Running from March 1 to 9, this competition invites students across the city to express their creativity through Ao Dai-inspired artworks. The initiative seeks to nurture young artistic talent while promoting the image of Ho Chi Minh City.
5. Online Ao Dai Photo Contest 2025
With the theme “Ao Dai and Historical Relics – April 30,” this online competition aims to highlight the elegance of the Vietnamese Ao Dai while showcasing significant historical sites, cultural events, and festivals throughout the city.
6. Exhibition and Interactive Spaces
From March 1 to 9, visitors can explore a dynamic exhibition space along Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Lam Son Park (in front of the City Theater), the export showroom at 92–96 Nguyen Hue, and the City Theater metro station. The exhibition will feature multiple thematic areas, offering immersive experiences for attendees.
7. Community Initiatives and Ao Dai Promotion
In addition to the cultural festivities, the organizing committee will distribute Ao Dai to female workers and community members. The festival also encourages the continued tradition of wearing Ao Dai, with local tailors and retailers offering special discounts on Ao Dai, fabrics, and accessories.
