Vietnam's Tourism Demonstrates Strong Growth in 2025 Tet as 12.5 Million Domestic Travelers Join Holiday Celebrations, Up 19% from Previous Year.
Record-breaking domestic and international travel
Vietnam's tourism showed strong growth during the 2025 Lunar New Year period. Domestic travel reached significant levels from January 25 to February 3. The country received 12.5 million domestic travelers in this nine-day holiday. This represents a 19% increase from the previous year.
Eight provinces and cities each generated over 1 trillion VND in revenue this season. This surpasses 2024, when only three cities achieved this milestone. Ho Chi Minh City led with $303 million in tourism revenue and 2.1 million visitors. Hanoi generated $139 million, showing 7.85% growth. Da Nang achieved $75 million, marking a 19% increase.
International tourism flourished in specific regions. Quang Ninh welcomed 228,700 foreign visitors. Da Nang followed closely with 228,000 international arrivals. The cruise sector expanded significantly. Premium vessels brought thousands of international travelers to ports in Da Nang and Quang Ninh.
Accommodation sectors reported robust occupancy rates nationwide. Northern destinations, particularly Sa Pa, achieved near-capacity levels of 90-95%, while coastal areas such as Kien Giang maintained healthy occupancy rates of 73.4%. Major urban centers consistently reported occupancy rates exceeding 60%, indicating widespread tourism activity throughout the country.
Vietravel Serves 150,000 Travelers During 2025 Lunar New Year
Vietravel reported substantial success during the Year of the Snake celebrations. The company served approximately 150,000 travelers across domestic and international markets. They achieved a 96% booking rate during this period.
The company's success was marked by strong customer turnout across major cities, with tour groups departing on the first day of Tet. This achievement reflects both Vietravel's market strength and the broader recovery of Vietnam's tourism sector. The company enhanced its offerings through strategic promotions, including early booking discounts and group incentives, while maintaining high service quality across both domestic destinations like Da Nang and Phu Quoc, and international routes throughout Southeast Asia and beyond.
Contributing Factors and Challenges
Several factors contributed to this success, including streamlined visa policies, improved infrastructure, and strategic marketing campaigns. The innovative "one journey, multiple destinations" initiative proved particularly effective in attracting visitors from both domestic and international markets.
The sector faced certain challenges. These included increased airfare costs of 10-15%. Regional competition also intensified. However, Vietnam maintained strong performance through effective security measures. Price controls and food safety standards were well-managed. These factors reinforced Vietnam's position as a premier Southeast Asian destination.
The exceptional performance during the 2025 Tet holiday period suggests a promising trajectory for Vietnam's tourism sector. With continued strategic development and infrastructure improvements, the industry appears well-positioned for sustained yearly growth.
