
In Hoi An City, Quang Nam, a significant conference titled "Responsible Tourism Associated with Nature and Wildlife Conservation" recently transpired. This event, organized by the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Quang Nam Forest Protection Department and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), is part of the Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation (VFBC) Project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The conference's mission is to heighten awareness and comprehension of responsible tourism among travel agencies concerning the natural environment. It aims to foster participation and interdisciplinary collaboration between forest rangers, the tourism industry, and the private sector to curtail the demand for illegal wildlife products.
Nationwide, ecotourism activities in special-use forests, conservation areas, and national parks amass over 2 million visitors annually, generating revenues exceeding VND 100 billion. This sector offers vast potential for tourism enterprises to explore and develop distinctive tour routes for advancement.

Vietnam boasts a remarkable array of protected natural areas, including 33 national parks, 57 nature reserves, 13 species and habitat conservation areas, 53 landscape protection areas, and 9 biosphere reserves. Quang Nam alone encompasses 1 biosphere reserve, 1 national park, and 2 species and habitat conservation areas.
During the conference, various units and organizations provided insights into responsible tourism linked to nature and wildlife conservation, addressing the current wildlife abuse from a tourism perspective, and outlining the tourism potential within Quang Nam's national parks and conservation areas.
Quang Nam's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism highlighted the vast potential for promoting responsible tourism aligned with nature conservation. Despite its diverse range of tourism resources, this field remains underdeveloped due to various reasons. Therefore, there's a call for the business community to engage in research and promotion, fostering sustainable tourism development and ecosystem preservation.
